It's the biggest local giving day of the year!!

Give Local Square Facebook Post.png

We are grateful that there are people in this community, like you, who are willing to give them the lifesaving gifts of medical care and a forever home.   When you give online through GiveLocal757, you can be confident that your donation is going to a LOCAL charity run by volunteers, and that your gift will directly benefit the homeless animals at Norfolk Animal Care Center.

We thank you for your generous support. Together we are changing the lives of animals in Hampton Roads!

P.S. Join us for a Virtual Coffee Break and help us win an additional $757 for our animals by giving between 9 AM – 10 AM on May 10. Hurry over to the FB event page and RSVP now!

Every day is a great day at Norfolk Animal Care Center (NACC). Medical needs are met – tummies are full – and each day brings a new opportunity for an animal to find their forever home. That is why we’re counting down the days to May 10th and Give Local 757.

Give Local 757 is an opportunity to unite our community around causes in which we truly believe and help nonprofit organizations connect to the larger community in just 24 hours.

Tell all your friends and family! Our furry friends need your help! Please join our campaign and help us reach our goal of $8,000! We need you to tell your friends and family members about the important work we do and ask them to join us in helping to make a difference.

Get ready to give! On May 10th, starting at 12AM, visit GiveLocal757 and make a donation to Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center. All giving will end at 11:59PM on May 10, so make sure to get your gift in on time.

We are so sorry to announce that our annual signature event, Dogs Gone Swimming, will not take place this year due to continued Covid restrictions and the unavailability of a suitable venue.  We hope to be able to resume offering this fun and exciting event next year. As an alternative for this year, check out the Pup Party at Ocean Breeze Water Park.

On a different note, we still have an abundant supply of Dogs Gone Swimming towels for purchase. They make great beach towels your beach going pooch. You can even use them to dry off a human or two. Proceeds raised from the sale of our merchandise continue to help fund the many programs at NACC.  Stop by NACC today and get yours.

Come visit NACC sometime between December 19th and January 2nd and take advantage of reduced adoption fees. You can also see pictures of the animals at NACC by clicking here. Throughout the year, we assist NACC with clearing the shelters by offering to assist with a portion of the adoption fee for dogs, cats and other small animals.  For this campaign, we are subsidizing $40 of the normal $75 adoption fee.  Perhaps you're an animal lover but for what ever reason you are unable to keep or care for a pet.  You can still participate in this effort by considering a small donation to Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center.  Your donation in any amount is greatly appreciated and goes a long way in helping Norfolk's homeless animals.

Come out and raise a glass of Mutt Lager beer to support the animals at NACC!!

Dogtoberfest 2020 Graphic for Social Med

We're not selling tickets to this year's Dogtoberfest.  Instead, Elation brewing is kindly donating a portion of the proceeds from their Mutt Lager beer to the animals.  Come on out and raise a glass or two or three. Every Mutt Lager sold helps us help the sick & homeless animals at NACC.  Bring the pooch.  It is DOGtoberfest after all.  $3 gets you this awesome glass!

DGS 2020 Are You Ready for iContact.jpg

You are cordially invited to attend our very first, one-of-a-kind “Wet Dog” Virtual Dogs Gone Swimming Fundraiser! Head on over to our Facebook page, look for the Virtual Dogs Gone Swimming Event, and click on “Going” so you can be reminded of all the fun that will be happening each day during VDGS Week.

And while you're there please warm our hearts, make us laugh, and brighten our days by posting your own “Wet Dog” photos or videos in the Comments section under the Discussion tab. All “Wet Dogs” qualify – whether from rain, the hose, the sprinkler, getting a bath -- they do NOT need to be swimming, and pics of your pups at previous DGS events are encouraged! Your photos could win you some great DGS swag like t-shirts, towels, or coffee mugs, or even a packet of custom handmade greeting cards made especially for us by local artist (and NACC adopter) Romy Williams.

Check our Facebook page often as we will be holding daily drawings and announcing various contests during VDGS Week. Win some of the great prizes you see above. Be creative, and let the world know how sweet, funny, and tolerant (lol) your own wet dog (or cat!) is!

And if you are able, please consider making a donation to Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center, because even though we're still restricted from holding any in-person events, there are lots of homeless animals at NACC who still need our help!

Check out the fun times we've had at previous year's Dogs Gone Swimming events:

Fashion Has Gone to the Dogs!!

Sashay, shantay, sashay, shantay and stay: it’s the second annual Fashion Has Gone to
the Dogs competition!

Bark to the left, bark to the right at MacArthur Center, Center Court on Sunday, February 9 from 1 to 2:30 p.m. You and your fashionista furball can participate in three categories: Best Owner/Dog Costume Combination for

Our panel of local celebrity judges – players from the Norfolk Admirals! -- will award trophies to the grand prize winners in each category.

Every dog should have a chance to work his Fur Steel look. That’s why we invite all canine alumni of the Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center to dog-walk the runway!

For the second time, Norfolk Animal Care and Adoption Center has partnered with MacArthur Center to support Friends of NACC. Participants must pre-register on Eventbrite with a minimum donation of $5. Walk-up registrations accepted day of for $5 or a food donation for the Norfolk Pet Pantry.

This event kicks off National Homeless Animal Awareness Week, which runs from Feb. 9 through the 16th. NACC will offer a discounted adoption fee of $50 during this week.

Dogs must be crowd/people/dog friendly and on leashes at all times, and each participant must sign a waiver. All participants should enter through the North 1 Entrance near Kay Jewelers into Center Court.

Despite the wet weather, we had a great turnout at O'Connor for the 6th annual Dogtoberfest.  Thank you to all that came out and supported us.  We raised close to $6,500 in ticket sales, silent auction items, donations, dog costume contest, merchandise sales and sponsorships.  We couldn't have done it without your generous support.  Many thanks go out to the awesome staff and volunteers at NACC, you always come thru to help make these events a great success. Also a big thank you to our board members that planned and organized this great annual event, your hard work always pays off.

The financial support we receive allows us to continue so many programs that help the homeless animals in our city.
