This Wednesday, Aug. 28th, is Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, which brings back wonderful animal memories for Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center. In the 11 years we have been putting on this fundraiser, we have heard so many fantastic adoption stories that not only touched our hearts but gained us friends, supporters, volunteers, staff and board members. Perhaps there is a special pet or NACC alumni you would like to remember this year? With a favorite pet DGS sponsorship, you can help us help more pets find loving homes. Every year we have sponsors in honor of a favorite pet. This year's sponsors will get something
extra - $100 sponsors will be recognized on Facebook and get a free swim session, $200 sponsors will also be recognized and in addition we will list your pet sponsorship on our sponsor poster at the event and give you an all-day swim pass. We would love for you to send us your pet's photo and a line or two on what made them special so we can put them on our Facebook page too! #RnbowBridgeRemembranceDay #SupportNACC
Go to our Sponsorships page and choose the "Toy Group" to sponsor your favorite pet.

CFC SPECIAL SOLICITATION
Helping charities through the COVID-19 pandemic
Are you aware that FNACC participates in the Combined Federal Campaign?
Nonprofit organizations everywhere are facing increased demands for their services, but they struggle with reduced resources due to limited donations and canceled fundraising events. Friends of Norfolk Animal Care Center is among those needing additional assistance in order to help carry out their mission.
This special solicitation, thru June 30th, provides an opportunity for Federal employees, members of the military, postal workers and retirees to create a new gift or an extra gift to support their favorite CFC-participating charities online or through the CFC mobile giving app. (The list is limited to the charities accepted by the CFC in 2019).
One hundred percent (100%) of the gifts made in this campaign will go to charities without a distribution fee.
Funds pledged will be paid out to charities by the 15th day of the month following receipt of the pledge by the CFC Central Campaign Administrator
Any employee who did not pledge via payroll deduction in fall 2019 can make a payroll-funded gift through the CFC.
Existing donors who pledged by payroll allotments in the fall of 2019 can make additional donations with electronic credit, debit, or ACH gift on the CFC giving platform or the mobile app.
The CFC online giving portal is a safe, trusted, and proven way to make contributions to more than 6,000 qualified 501(c)(3) charitable organizations which were approved for the fall 2019 CFC.
Consider making a special gift to FNACC today. Go to CFC giving platform, click Find a Charity at the top of the screen and search for our charity code: 73232.
Thank you for your continued support!
Dogs Gone Swimming
(everything else is gone doggone virtual, so have we)
As we wrote two years ago just prior to Hurricane Florence, nothing pains us like canceling an event we look forward to all year, but with the pandemic and guidelines around social distancing, we simply can't hold an in-person event this year. This truly is such a disappointment because not only is DGS our biggest fundraiser of the year, we loved this event so much simply because observing the absolute unbridled joy it brought to all our canine friends was just the best thing ever!
Therefore ***drum roll, please*** we've decided to hold the very first Virtual Dogs Gone Swimming!!! Please mark your calendars for Saturday, September 12 through Saturday, September 19, and plan to participate in this one-of-a-kind "wet dogs" virtual event. We hope to have lots of photos, videos, contests, and even some prizes, and enough poolside pup shenanigans to warm even the coldest socially-distanced hearts!
Stay tuned to this space as many more details will be coming soon. In the meantime, if you need a refresher as to why #WetDogsAreHappyDogs, check out this link to photos from past year's events. Dogs are the best balm! https://friendsofnacc.smugmug.com/
Special Medical Needs Fundraiser
Hey friends, two sweet animals at NACC—one kitten and one pup—need specialized medical assistance. They both have potential adopters lined up. We’d like to help raise funds so they both can be treated and have happy, healthy lives with their forever families. Please read their stories below and donate if you can. And remember, even the smallest donations will help! Thank you and, as always, we appreciate your support, especially during these difficult times!!
FIRECRACKER -- $900
Firecracker is a 10-week-old kitten in need of corrective eyelid surgery. Firecracker was born with the congenital defect eyelid agenesis, or eyelid coloboma. This defect causes the eyelid to not fully form and will lead to chronic eye problems such as conjunctivitis, ulceration, and loss of vision.
Firecracker has been in foster care with NACC since she was 3 weeks old, and is currently in a medical foster-to-adopt. She and her litter mates were all born with abnormal eyelids. As the kittens grew, it became apparent that Firecracker’s eyes were much worse than the others. She was the smallest of the litter but just as playful and rambunctious. Just like her name, she is a firecracker! Her littermates have all been adopted, but Firecracker needs additional medical care. She currently has vision and runs and plays just like any kitten her age.
Firecracker is scheduled to see an eye specialist to assess the best procedure to save her eyes and her sight. This procedure is often liquid nitrogen cryotherapy, essentially freezing off the hair follicles surrounding the eye. This procedure is typically $800-$900 and will most likely be the best option to save Firecracker’s sight. This procedure would enable Firecracker to see into a bright future with her family!
KOBE -- $2,800-3,400
Kobe is a 9-year-old Maltese in need of corrective surgery for a bilateral perinea hernia. Kobe was found as a stray by a staff member back in July. Although friendly and lively, staff realized that something was wrong with his hind end. He was taken to a local veterinarian who diagnosed him with the perinea hernia. This condition causes issues with bowel movements, and the only treatment is corrective surgery.
He went into foster with staff and has a potential adopter. Prior to adoption, the surgery was scheduled at the NSPCA but, upon further diagnosis, it was determined that he would need a specialist. He was seen at Bay Area Veterinary where the diagnosis was confirmed, and the surgery was quoted $2800-3400.
Kobe is being kept comfortable with medications. Although the condition may seem unsightly, Kobe remains a happy and active boy but he will need this surgery to live a long, happy and healthy life with his new family.
Firecracker & Kobe thank you for your generosity!
