Allie (formerly Patches)
Hi just a wanted to let you all know that Allie is doing well. She is wonderful!! We can't believe what a sweet and well-behaved girl she is. She is not your typical hyper Jack Russell, she's very laid back unless you play game of fetch or rope tug.
She is a blanket hog, curling up in blankets to get comfy and getting under the covers at bed time. She loves to play ball, take car rides and be your co-pilot. Allie likes to take long walks but not in the rain. We have found her to be great with kids of any age, and has become the neighborhood fave with the kids.
Thanks to the NACC for all did to help us, and for such an amazing job they do with all the dogs there.

Ruby (formerly Lily)
Ruby is a wonderful addition to our family. She loves children and has become a great friend for our daughter. She gives lots and lots of kisses and snuggles. We appreciate the care she got at NACC and the help we had in selecting her.

Duncan and Dory
[Originally adopted August 2006, with the first update two weeks after their adoption, we were fortunate to hear from their mom again in September 2009 when she made a donation to the shelter - and sent us an "all grown up" photo.]
I adopted Duncan (grey) and Dory (black) just over two weeks ago, and these two darlings have stolen the hearts of my entire family. The past five years had seen the passing of my family's three elderly pets, and it had come time for some new life in the house. I knew I wanted a kitten, and from my previous two cats I learned that they do very well in pairs, so I went looking for littermates. When I saw these two on the NAMC website, I knew that they were the ones for me.
They were tiny, less than two pounds each, and they had fleas and respiratory infections, so the vet wouldn't spay them right away (don't tell them that it's coming up in a few weeks). They took their medicine and are now almost fully recuperated. The only sign of the infection remaining is in Dory's eye, which has been steadily improving and is now barely noticeable. She is an active little girl who likes to sleep up high, attack her brother, and, occasionally, chase her own tail. Duncan is completely recovered. He prefers to sleep next to a person or his sister, loves to pounce on Dory, and enjoys racing around the house attacking helpless fringe. They have both adjusted to their new home and are, I believe, as happy with us as we are with them.
Anyway, I just wanted to let you all know that these little guys are doing great and to tell you how much we adore them. Thanks NAMC!

Etta
I was never blessed with children.
It use to make me sad.
Now I see it was probably because so many dogs need mothers and that I can do!!
I collect lost souls.
It is frustrating that I have economic constraints because the love is limitless.
Maxwell was a SPCA mutt-man; my soul mate for 17 years. He guided me single heartedly through some very tough times and when he saw I was no longer broken he knew his job was done. I never held someone I loved while they died. It really hurts.
Maxwell and I have seen several foster dogs come through our hearts-- and three that stayed...a big stubborn greyhound that was on his third home...they said he was mean. Maxwell and I knew right away...if you respect him, he respects you. He's not so tough after all!!
Then there is Moosie--he's a nervous pisser. He is another greyhound on his third home; turns out, Maxwell and I just didn't make him nervous and he didn't pee in the house. Go figure!! Then...there is Maddie the (big) lab puppy; we intercepted her on her ride to the SPCA. She ate Maxwell's bed.
I won't go into Karma the cat.....she ain't scared of nothin' !!!! She is the one who clung to me in Maxwell's immediate absence. I guess you don't know the impact you have on someone until you're gone.
Like so many things in life; out of sadness there comes joy.
I found the soul of Maxwell in another dogs eyes. We call her Etta. You kept her safe. In the first week at home I watched Etta wipe her mouth on the length of my couch. Maxwell use to get in trouble for that!!
Because of you, we are complete again. Thank you....from all of us.

Titi (Brown Tabby) and Shenanigans (Orange Tabby)
Hi, its Gary. Jaime and I have Shenanigan and Titi. We want to say thank you so much. It means alot to us to have both cats in our home. They both are great together. They act like they own the house already. They both love looking out of the windows and they play well together. They get along well with each other and have not hissed at all. We are so excited to have both cats. We hope you enjoy these pics as much as we enjoy taking them.

Clancey
I don't know what to say about "Clancey" (his new name) except that... HE'S WONDERFUL! When I came to the shelter, Clancey was in the sick bay and I immediately fell in love with that cute little Wheaten Terrier face. We adopted him on 5/10/09.
When we first brought Clancey home he was a afraid of the "open" stairs outside of the condo so we had to carry him up 3 flights of stairs. With a little work and patience he overcame his fear, and we appreciated no longer having to carry a 35 lb. bundle of fur up all those stairs anymore. We have since moved into a house with a fenced yard and Mr. Clancey loves it! He runs, jumps, leaps, and hops all over the yard. He looks like a little gazelle or something the way he performs.
About housebreaking and crate training...
Clancey has been a breeze with housebreaking. He had a few accidents at first, but I'm sure it was because of the new environments. Since then he's been great! Each day we put him in the crate when we leave for work. He's not wild on it and looks like "Mr. Sad Sack" when he has to go in, but he deals with it. And since we work staggered hours, he rarely has to stay in the crate more than 5 or six hours at a time.
Since the adoption and attached photo was taken at the shelter, Clancey has been to the beauty parlor for a new "do." The girls at Care-A-Lot nicknamed him "Crazy Clancey." He was apparently a bit of a handful during the grooming process.
All in all Clancey has been a great addition to the family. He's a confirmed "spoiled little brat" but that's O.K. we love spoiling him and he loves being spoiled!
Thanx,
JW

Kirk & Trapper
It's been a few months since I adopted Kirk and Trapper on June 1, 2009. They are growing like weeds, and are a wonderful addition to our family. Friendly and playful, they bring us hours of enjoyment and laughter. Kirk is very affectionate, when he wants to be, of course ! And Trapper loves to be petted and have his belly rubbed. I know that they are going to be happy in our home for a long time. The photo shows Trapper on the left, and Kirk on the right. I am so glad that we chose to adopt them.

Phoebe
Our family adopted Phoebe in January and what a wonderful addition. She came in and made herself at home like she had been with us forever. She immediately claimed the recliner as her special spot and no one will even sit in it because everyone knows that's Phoebe's seat. She's a nonstop eater and loves to play with everything and everybody. We appreciate Norfolk Animal Care Center for such a great pet!
