Rylee

I adopted Rylee on March 6, 2009 and she's the sweetest dog I've ever met. It took her a little while to realize that she had a home and didn't have to worry about being sent back to the Animal Center but once she did her personality began to shine. She follows me around everywhere I go and loves to curl up next to me. Rylee was a tiny little dog when I adopted her, who was a picky eater but now she's put on some weight and has the beagle mentality to beg for food whenever she can and even gets really excited when it's dinner time. She didn't know how to play at all when I first brought her home but now she loves to play with her toys and play fetch. She also gets along great with my parents beagle Tucker- as seen in the picture :) She especially loves when her and Tucker can chase after the same toy and compete to get it. I'm so glad I was able to adopt little Rylee and make her a part of my family!!!

In the picture Rylee is on the right and Tucker is on the left!

Thanks so much for allowing me to adopt this fabulous dog!!

Bennie

My husband was home for his R&R and he fell in love with Bennie. Of course, he denied it at first. Bennie would sleep with us pretty much every night, usually in my husbands arms which I was a little jealous of! Bennie literally just plops down anyway he wants to and sleeps. He’s so adorable! He has taught the others some bad habits though! A couple nights I caught him taking the treat bag off the counter and dragging it across the floor and tearing it open. I figured I'd be smart and put them in a small plastic container (like ½ cup size), well Bennie was smarter and managed to roll it off the counter top and over into one of their little play house things. I think its absolutely hilarious!!!!! He’s a very SMART cat. Some of the things he does, you just can't help but laugh. My husband got a real kick out of the fact that Bennie just comes up and plops himself down wherever he feels like, even if he was upside down and sleeps. You can pick him up from one place and place him somewhere else in the same position and he will just stay there!

December 2009 Update: Bennie has developed a new cute habit. When I am working, and he wants to jump up on my lap and he thinks I am ignoring him, he will take his paw, and gently nudge me with it to get my attention. He’s so amazing, I just love him to pieces!!! He and Fiona (the Siamese), never really bonded like I would have hoped, but she has always been an attitude kind of cat. I did notice them snuggling a couple of times but as soon as she saw me looking she ran away. Lunita and Bennie however, are inseparable!

Zoey (formerly Elvira)

Just wanted to send you an update on Zoey (formerly known as Elvira). She is wonderful!! We can't believe what a sweet and well-behaved girl she is. She loves nothing more than to go for a long walk and then have her belly rubbed. She's enjoying the dog park in our neighborhood - she gets along so well with the other dogs and loves meeting new people, too. I've attached some photos of her in her new home. Thank you so much for helping us find our wonderful dog!

Buddy (formerly Hamilton)

Buddy says HI to Everyone and so do his new Mom and Dad!!!! Buddy is 8 years young and came to us March 9, 2009. He was a little groggy from his surgery, but each day he continued to improve. He was also heartworm positive, which we knew, and underwent treatment with fantastic results. He is doing great and he knows it. He loves to play fetch, likes his treats for doing good things, and is a wonderful companion. Buddy has recently become a great guard dog, barking at unknown noises and at his reflection in the mirror. Because I am past having a puppy around, I wanted an older dog and Buddy was just the right answer for us. He can only walk as far as I can before becoming tired but loves to go everywhere we do.

If you are thinking about a new member to your family PLEASE give one of Buddy’s cousins a chance. We had our meet and greet sessions several times to make sure he would get along with his cousin Joey, our granddaughter Nikole, and us of course. The team at NACC was GREAT in helping us with that.

Birdie/Bird Dog (formerly Sasha)

We adopted Birdie From NACC in April of this year. Her name was Sasha, but we changed it to Birdie (or Bird-dog to her friends), which turned out to be quite fitting. Every time we take her on a walk or to the park she is consumed with finding and chasing birds. She hasn’t caught one yet, and the birds have a fun time messing with her, but it really makes her happy. As cute and sweet as Birdie is, she was returned to the NACC by more than one owner. We can’t comprehend how someone could do this, but we are glad they did because Birdie has completed our family and we couldn’t imagine life without her. Birdie is incredibly well behaved and full of personality, including her go-to trick of sitting up and waving with her paws (see photo). She loves long walks and cuddling on the couch, but most of all loves taking up all the room in the bed to wedge between her mom and dad. Thanks to the NACC for all they do and for helping us find the dog we always wanted.

Terrance

I just wanted to give you an update on Terrance. Well, he's doing great, and is very sweet and loving. He can get into trouble sometimes, but what kitten doesn't? I got him when he was 7 weeks old, and he's now going on 5 months on the 31st. I love him so much! He's ike my baby. He follows me around the house all day from the time I wake up till the time I go to bed. He's very cuddly. He's my little sweetheart and I'm so happy I got him. He's my world and he makes me smile everyday.

Thesis

Thesis is well and full of energy. Her favorite activities include playing with Bird-on-a-Stick (feathers attached to thin, flexible, pole), chasing the Uncatchable-Red-Dot-on-the-Floor (L.E.D laser pointer thingy), and swatting at the brightly colored Bell-in-a-Ball. She spends most of her time lounging on her perch atop the kitty hotel and clucking at birds she can see from there. She brings us so much joy on a daily basis and has truly become a member of the family. Thanks for keeping her safe until we could meet her and bring her home :)

Warm regards,
-Elizabeth Monroe

Riley

This is follow-up on a dog we adopted in from your facility in May 2009 (per phone call). We named her Riley and she is known for her great expressive face and wrinkles. She is very smart and house trained right away and knows “come, sit, shake, lay, no, down (stairs), in crate, leave it, and outside” by voice command. She has just started, on her own, using her crate for naps, but is allowed to sleep where she wants. She gets really excited when she sees you and her whole body wags and then she lays down and rolls over for a belly rub. She loves to play, lay in the sun, go for car rides, and she also loves the water and is a great swimmer. We have greatly enjoyed having her as a part of our family.

Buttercup (Pom mix) and Gigi (Chihuahua)

We adopted Buttercup on December 17th, 2009. He is Pom/chi mix. When we first met him he was so cute and had a great personality...but when we got him home he was even more of a great dog then anyone could ask for. He loves to sleep. He has a great personality. When we get all cuddled up he will come running to cuddled with us...He is a cuddle bug. When I am having a bad day, or something is wrong he knows and he will come give me kisses and cheer me up. He is one of the best friends that we could ask for. He is amazing. He is doing great as well. We found out 2 weeks after we adopted him we took him to get a check up and the Vet told us he has a heart murmur but he is doing great. He has gained a couple of pounds since being with us and is really healthy but he gets spoiled. We would like to thank NACC for introducing him to us we don't know what we would do with out him.

When we first met Gigi, Buttercup and her got along great and she was fun to be around. The day we picked her up after her getting spayed was a little rough for her going into a new home and just having surgery so the first couple of days she kept to herself. Then she started to come around. Buttercup and Gigi are best friends they like to cuddle up together on their beds. Gigi loves to play fetch and chew on her toys. She loves to go for walks, but when it rains her and Buttercup like to tip toe around and try not to get wet. Gigi is a great girl she is doing wonderful. She has come a long way from when we first got her. Gigi has also gained a couple pounds and is very healthy. She is our baby girl and we would not replace her for anything. We have our two best friends.

Thank you so much for helping us find our babies! We love them so much and would not replace them for anything!

Shorty (formerly Houston)

Hi, I'm Virginia Martin. My family & I adopted our dog Shorty (Houston was his name at the kennel) Sometime in the beginning of 2009. Ever since he has been such an amazing little dog. He absolutely loves all his toys and running with me. He seems to like the toys that are much bigger than he is. haha I'm not to sure why but it's crazy fun having him around. He loves all the attention we give him. He's an all around great dog. I wanted to thank everyone at the Kennel for such an amazing job they do with all the dogs there. I appreciate it so much. I wouldn't have my baby if it weren't for you guys.

Pancake

Pancake is doing well, thank you.

He has become a very good part of our family.
