Precious
Last year I purchased my first home and desperately wanted a companion. I went to several shelters wanting a puppy. I finally came to this shelter and found a 4 month old pup that I wanted, but my closing was pushed back on the house and I could not get her. She was gone the next time I came back, but I found a little 8 week old puppy that was a stray and I fell in love with her.
I qualified to get her but found out the day I was to pick her up that her heart stopped while being spayed and she could possibly be blind and mentally delayed because of it. I continued with my adoption anyway. At 2am the morning after I took her home, I heard her yelping to play and when I let her out of her kennel, it was very obvious that nothing was wrong with her. She is a vibrant, full of life 9 month old now. Precious is the joy of my life.

Chico
I received a wonderful follow up call from your office this afternoon and I loved telling her about Chico. Chico, a 6 year old black lab mix, was adopted by my husband, George Perry, in January of 2009. At that time, we were not married. I moved into George’s home in April, bringing with me my 3 dogs and cat. From the beginning, everything was wonderful with Chico. He is just a really cool, laid-back dog who welcomed my 2 year old yellow lab, Toby, my 5 year old shepherd/rot mix I adopted from the Norfolk SPCA in 2005, Natalie, my 13 year old beagle, Katie, and my 15 year old cat, Shinkerinker. They bonded from day 1. Since we married, we adopted a 10 week old pot belly pig, Petunia. While the other dogs were unsure of Petunia, Chico took her presence in stride and now I think Petunia thinks Chico is her mother. It is fun to watch Petunia follow Chico around the yard. I’ve attached a picture of Chico and Chico and Petunia on 7/25.
I am so glad that George listened to me and chose to adopt from a shelter rather than a pet shop. We are so happy to have found Chico and I believe I’ve made a believer out of George with regard to shelters! Thank you for all you do for our 4 legged friends! I know that when the time comes when we are in the market for another dog, I am sure we will be back.
Thank you,
Nancy Perry |

Puck and Pounce
I am the one who adopted Puck and Pounce from the Petco. They are adorable and fit right into my family of cats. They hit the ground like they owned the place and had no adjustment issues. My two cats had to adjust. But they were all fine within 24 hours.
I’ve attached a couple of pictures. I’ve renamed them Barney and Bailey. Bailey has spots for his stripes and barney is striped. That’s how I tell them apart! They love to snuggle and they have fallen in love with the green pillow they are on in the picture. So they’ve taken over the love seat. They are kings of the house.
They are definitely mine forever.

Pavarotti
I lost my feline friend (Cleo) of 21 years in May and wanted to adopt a shelter cat in her memory. While I was visiting my sister this summer in Norfolk a friend told us about how desperately some of the cats at the NACC needed homes. I went to Petco and that's where I met Pavoratti aka Felix. We seemed to bond right from the start. I adopted Felix and brought him to his new home in southwest VA. He is a joy and my husband and I love him dearly. He now enjoys a loving home and is so spoiled rotten. Cleo will never be replaced, but Felix is filling a void I didn't think was possible. Thanks to Janie and Laurelyn for helping Felix become a very important part of our family!!!

Cinnamon
Hi, my name is Jessica Johnson. I adopted Cinnamon in Sept 08, but I changed her name to Marilyn, after Marilyn Monroe because my girl is just as beautiful as the real thing. And quite a character I might add. When we first got her she was sick with kennel cough and then she got spayed after she was better, so we didn't get to see her real personality come out for a couple months after we got her. Marilyn has put on about 45 pounds since we got her and she is so full of life and wonderful to be around. Thank you for allowing me to adopt such a gorgeous, loving dog.

Xerxes (formerly Chico)
This is Xerxes (formally known as Chico). He loves to go to the ocean, swim in the pool, go on car rides, and play with his brothers and sister. He came into a loving family with a cat named Diddy, a Chihuahua named Evie, and a Boston Terrier named Audi. When we first got him we weren't sure how he would do with the others, but when they all met for the first time it was like they had known eachother for a life time. When we go out for walks, we still get the occasion bad looks because he is a pit bull but most of the time he can win them over with his super friendly personality and a good kiss on the face. Xerxes has really brought our family a lot of happiness and I would like to thank you all at the NACC for taking him in.

Daisey
I found this poor doggie wondering the streets and she looked like she hadn't eaten in days and she had very recently had a litter of puppies. With great concern for her health and safety, I immediately made a call to Animal Control. The lady with animal control told me that she would be bringing her to your shelter. The best part of taking her to the shelter was that I could visit her and would be first up to adopt her if I wanted. So for days my girlfriend and I went to visit her and she took on the name Daisey! It was definate that I wanted to bring her home. So after the 10 days that we had to wait to bring her home, she finally got to leave the shelter and make our home, her home. We gave her lots of love, food and attention and she quickly recovered. She has easily gained 25 pounds of meat and muscle. She is a 55 pound lap dog tho! She has learned alot from her sister, Chesney (our 10 pound chihuahua) because she is now curling up in blankets to get comfy and getting under the covers at bed time. She loves to run and play ball in our backyard, take car rides and eat! She has even made a couple trips to my parents farm in NY. We are very thankful for all your help with making her feel better! She is a wonderfull dog and we are glad to have her. Thank you very much for allowing us to make Daisey-Do-Do a part of our family! P.S. Daisey says Thank you too as she is laying here sleeping next to me...she is quite the snorer!
Eric, Diana, Chesney and Daisey!

Max (with Zoe)
We adopted Zoe (calico cat) at an Adoptaphon on Valentine's Day. She came from an out of town shelter and was very very sick. I nursed her back to health and decided that she needed a companion. She is "my" cat, we went to the Norfolk Animal Care Center and adopted Max. He is my husband's cat. He is so sweet and cuddly. Zoe loves her brother. She grooms him and the two of them play endlessly. They are really a lot of fun to watch. Since all our kids are grown-up and gone, these two are like our babies. My husband tells me all the time that I spoil Zoe, but he spoils her too, just like his spoils Max. Thank you again for keeping up such a wonderful animal shelter. Kuddos to all the staff, they do a wonderful job. I am including a few pics. We have lots of them as well as movies.

Duffy
We received your phone message yesterday about the little dog we
adopted the end of March this year.
He's about 1-1/2 yrs old and his 'brother' is 7 yr old, Teddy, (terrier mix,
and also a rescue dog).
We named him "Duffy" and he fits right in our family. He's so athletic
and such a great companion.
Thanks for all you've done to help people get such good pets.
